Karen volunteers to help our management, fundraising and finance teams with a range of activities. Like all our volunteers, Karen is DBS Checked and brings a wealth of skills and talents to the charity.

Karen’s story

“On leaving college I began working for a large IT multinational, fully intending to move on after a couple of years. Forty years later I took early retirement from the very same company!

“Finding I had some spare time on my hands, I looked for volunteering opportunities and found an advertisement for The Elizabeth Foundation supporting their fundraising team. I applied for the role and am so pleased that I did.

“The staff are so welcoming and they really make me feel part of the team. The work is very varied and has included supporting fundraising events, researching and writing to organisations seeking corporate sponsorship, preparing minutes for trustee meetings and team meetings and generally helping out wherever necessary.

“The Elizabeth Foundation provides inspirational support to young deaf children and their families. I hope that in some very small way my contribution will help the charity to continue and expand its invaluable work.”
