Listen! Spring/Summer 2024 newsletter available to download

The latest issue of Listen! leads on the front cover with an article about the importance of deaf role models for our children – including our amazing patron Jodie Ounsley (Fury in the BBC’s Gladiators reboot). We also include details of some new online resources (“Foundations for communication” and BSL signs) and our successful night at the Smiley Charity Film Awards – the “charity Oscars”.

You can read all about the different elements of our work in the newsletter, which celebrates our successes over the last year. We continue to support deaf children and their families from all over the south of England in the nursery sessions we provide at our Family Centre in Hampshire. And an ever-increasing number of families and professionals from all across the UK are using our online Let’s Listen and Talk programme – with well over 1,250 subscribers (at the time of writing the newsletter).

The newsletter also features Jack’s story, who currently attends our preschool nursery. You can read an update from one of our graduates, Poppy, who is now at secondary school. Poppy features in this BBC Children in Need film about how her time at The Elizabeth Foundation helped prepare her for starting primary school.

In the newsletter you can also read more about new staff and volunteers, and also how we are working together with various other charities, universities and organisations to support children with all degrees of deafness and their families. We also pay tribute to our much-loved President, Ann Rachlin MBE, and our long-standing volunteer Ray Rough, who both recently passed.

Listen! also provides information about our various sources of fundraising … and how you, too, can support the charity through various challenges, events and opportunities.

We hope you enjoy this edition of the ‘Listen!’
