to inform future practice.
Gather evidence to inform interventions
We actively collaborate with university research teams exploring:
- early years development
- the impact of children’s deafness on their communication
- effective intervention approaches
- deafness and literacy development
These collaborations lead to better understanding, for all involved, on what makes the difference for young deaf children and their families.
This research evidence is vital to shape future intervention approaches for these children.

Research case study
Preschool Language and Literacy Study
For a period of seven years, we have been part of the Preschool Language and Literacy Study, run by researchers from the Ladder Lab (Literacy & Deafness Development Research Lab) at the Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL) at UCL and City University, London.
Many of our families volunteered their time to be part of this study, which aims to understand how preschool language and emerging literacy skills are related to later reading ability in deaf children. For several years after leaving our preschool services, families returned during school holidays to participate in the on-going research.
Being part of this research helps us to make sure we are improving our services all the time to find the best ways to support deaf children and their families.
